The different types of mentors: Bin Laden, through master of magicians to Dr House
For reasons that elude me, I've always considered it important to work with someone I like; maybe because I worked as a gardener for years before going to college, I learned the importance of working with people who make your way easier, and the pain of working with people who play against you is overwhelming: any walk is complicated enough to add people. as "headache".

For reasons that elude me, I've always considered it important to work with someone I like; maybe because I worked as a gardener for years before going to college, I learned the importance of working with people who make your way easier, and the pain of working with people who play against you is overwhelming: any walk is complicated enough to add people. as "headache".
I didn't notice the same mentality in my classmates, who seemed to choose to guide him as if it were destiny, or even focusing only on research or even on the researcher's image, if he is renowned; even in “facilities” such as resources and pre-made research. That is, at some level, “selling intellectual autonomy for favors”. Of course, in some cases the choice was assertive, such as “win that scholarship to go to Portugal”; however, this game is played in two and many end up in relationships with broken promises (see poll in the book, Poll 5), something I went through in the first postdoc.
Although it cannot be called “scientific research”, the book is filled with polls made in the Facebook groups of CAPES, CAPES (Official) and FAPERJ. This serves to show a thermometer around the subject, of the importance of paying attention to the subject if we want to solve problems of lost research, poorly invested public money. I defend the thesis that giving the scholarship is not enough, we need to create favorable and friendly environments for the young researcher. Phrases like, which I've heard directly, should disappear from the mouths of advisors: "you're being paid for this". This shows a very probably authoritarian mentality, not used to an oppressed voice speaking, let's take the example of the emancipation of women, and let's do the emancipation of the young researcher!
Good research and I hope this book helps you in choosing your advisor
